THE WINERY

In 1838, the Lyle Brothers, born in Scotland, ventured into the Yarra Valley to obtain permission to use 43,000 acres. The Lai Lie brothers gave the land an indigenous name "Yering" to open the first vineyard in Victoria. In the early 1950s, the Swiss immigrant Paul Castilla became the owner of the winery and developed the winery into a landmark in the Victorian wine region.

Castilla expanded the vineyard and planted a grape variety imported from France: a winery and a garden, and a avenue of 330 eucalyptus trees planted along the driveway. At the World Expo in Paris in 1889, the winery won the highest award and became the only winner of the Southern Hemisphere wine industry, reaching the early peak and marking the beginning of a series of achievements.

After many changes in the 20th century, the winery was acquired by the Rossburn family in 1996, but still retains the model of the family winery. Our proud winery architecture remains to this day, the original boulevards, the barns filled with rich traditional flavours, and the early brewing plants that have now become tasting rooms, all of which are reminders of the past. The breathtaking historic buildings contrast with the beautiful natural surroundings, and the unique design allows visitors to fully enjoy the wonderful sensory experience of wine and food.

Victoria's first vineyard

Founded in 1838

The winery is the first wine estate in Victoria and was built in 1838.

The Ross family acquired the winery in 1996 and built an art-inspired winery and turned it into a quality wine destination, opening a new chapter in the history of the winery. Youyi Winery is known for producing world-class wines.

In 2004, he won the “Best International Brewer of the Year” award at the prestigious London International Wine and Spirits Competition. This family-owned winery is further well known for its outstanding performance at the 2006 Australian Tourism Awards “Honours Hall”.

Nestled in the heart of the scenic Yarra Valley, just a hour's drive from Melbourne, Youyi Winery offers unforgettable wines and specialities. With fascinating views, exquisite architecture and a paradise-like manor, Youji Winery is an unforgettable choice for your trip to the Yarra Valley.

[Viticulture and winemaking]

The winery's vineyards cover 275 acres and are located in five locations in the Yarra Valley. Each site will vary depending on orientation, microclimate and soil type. The local growing season is longer, improving the complex and balanced internal structure of the grapes. The Viticulture of Uygur Winery uses traditional techniques to combine Australian innovation with a unique environment or “water and soil conditions”. The vineyards are cultivated according to seasonal changes to ensure that the brewing potential of each grape is maximized. The wines of the winery are all made from grapes from the Yarra Valley.

The team at the winery is dedicated to the production of pure, varied and balanced wines. Winemaking techniques such as the whole pressing method, the wild yeast fermentation method and the French oak barrel aging method make the wine fresh and delicious, forming a “superior character”.

There are a wide variety of wineries, including the classic Chardonnay in the Yarra Valley, the black-skinned words and the exciting Syrah-Vionier.

[Yarra Valley]

Located in the heart of the Yarra Valley, Youyi Winery is an hour's drive from Melbourne, 50-400 meters above sea level. Unlike other Australian producing areas, this climate is very cool.

The climate of the Yarra Valley is very special. The average annual rainfall in the spring and winter is between 750 and 950 mm. It is also dry and cool in summer. Interestingly, compared to the French climate. This is about 7 months of growth season is slightly warmer than Burgundy, slightly cooler than Bordeaux.

The diversity of the microclimate in the Yarra Valley provides a good condition for the winery – suitable for both early-maturing varieties with high acidity and late-maturing varieties with strong aroma.
